HSPN Support Services Coordinator
The City has awarded CDBG funding to the Veterans Transition House in order to provide the staff support needed to undertake the administrative work of the HSPN as well as providing a centralized point of contact for those seeking direct assistance from the City of New Bedford's Continuum of Care providers. As a means of assisting the HSPN Chairperson, the Coordinator helps the City to co-convene all plenary sessions and assist in convening subcommittee meetings, ensuring that all subcommittee-meeting notices are communicated to every participant in a timely, effective manner.
As a contact for those seeking assistance, the Coordinator serves as a referral source in an attempt to find a temporary or long-term solution for the homeless. There are several other agencies that provide these services as well but, unfortunately, some people "fall through the cracks" and/or are so overwhelmed that they do not know where to turn. The primary purpose of the coordinator is to refer to other agencies that have the facilities to accommodate the specific needs of a client. This is a component that is currently being strengthened through direct contact with the various agencies by the coordinator. We have realized a 50% increase in the number of clients who have been offered assistance through the coordinator's position.
Services are provided to those people who are threatened with imminent homelessness as well as those who are, in fact, homeless regardless of age, race or sex.
The Coordinator's office is located within the facilities of the Veterans Transition House.
